Instant Pot Moong Dal


 Ingredients 

  • 1 cup moong dal
  • 1 medium to large tomato
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 green chili
  • 1/2 inch ginger 
  • 1 tablespoon oil or ghee
  • Mustard seeds
  • Cumin seeds
  • Pinch of hing 
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder 
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 3 cups of water
  • Cilantro for garnishing
  • Lemon or lime


Method

1) Wash moong and soak for about 15 minutes, then drain.

2) Start instant pot on sauté mode, place oil/ghee and once warm, place mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and hing. Now, add ginger, garlic, green chili and sauté for a minute. Toss in chopped tomatoes and sauté for few minutes. Add moong dal along with red chili, turmeric, and salt followed by 3 cups of water.

3) Place instant pot on pressure cook for 4 minutes and natural release for 5 minutes.

4) Enjoy with roti, rice, or as a lentil soup. Garnish with cilantro and lemon/lime.
