Toor Dal Instant Pot
Ingredients
To place in instant pot
- 2 cups toor dal- 6 cups water
- 1/4 teaspoon methi seeds
- 1 teaspoon oil
- Optional: peanuts
For vagar
- 2 tablespoon oil
- Dried red chili
- 1/4 teaspoon hing
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon methi seeds
- 1 8 oz tomato sauce
- 2 tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon Gaur or sugar
- 2 tablespoons grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 green chilis
- 1/2 fresh lemon
- Curry leaves
- 2 teaspoon salt
Garnishing
-Cilantro
1) Place toor dal, methi seeds, methi seeds, and water in instant pot and place on manual high pressure mode for 18 minutes with plan to allow natural release for 5 minutes. (May add peanuts but will have to remove prior to blending afterwards)
2) On stove, do vagar by placing oil, then place mustard seeds followed by dry red chilli pepper and rest of ingredients
3) Once ready, hand blend the dal in the instant pot to smooth consistency and then place on saute mode. Add vagar ingredients and allow to simmer for at least 5 minutes. If peanuts were taken out prior to blending, place back in while simmering.
